Bachelor Hash
Bachelor Hash was the first dish my husband ever made for me when we started dating. It follows similar lines of other hash recipes , so clearly it influenced my taste! However, has some interesting twists like jerk seasoning, BBQ sauce and Parmesan cheese. It sounds weird , it sounds strange and yet it all works …a complete mish mosh of random fridge items . Truly something someone living the bachelor life could pull together into a tasty satisfying meal.
It does follow the same formula for putting together a tasty hash - Veggies, Herbs and Protein for fat and flavour .
This is great anytime dish : big breakfast, a different brunch dish or a quick pulled together dinner…very tasty and filling .
Ingredients:
2-3 Hash brown patties
1/2 bell pepper (sweet pepper) diced
1/4 small onion diced
1 green onion/ scallion/ chive finely minced
2 tablespoons of cheese
2 slices of cooked bacon crumbled or sausage cubed/ sliced
1 tablespoon of jerk seasoning marinade
1/4 cup of BBQ sauce
Preparation:
Place hash brown patties in fry pan , and brown both sides until fully cooked (6-8 minutes)
Break up the hash brown patties into small pieces and add the onion and bell peppers. Toss to fully incorporate and add salt and pepper to taste.
Cook veggies approximately 5 minutes until they are soft but still hold their shape.
Add in the bacon of sausage into the mixture, toss and add in jerk bbq sauce . Turn the mixture to ensure hash is fully coated .
Top the hash mixture with shredded cheese and green onion and cover. Turn off the heat and allow the cheese to melt over the top .
Serving recommendations:
Serve with an egg - soft fried or poached.
Serve with a green salad.
